Medication Authorization Policy

At the start of the 2013-2014 school year, Thomaston Public Schools changed how over-the-counter medications are dispensed.  This change was determined under the advisement of the District’s Medical Advisor and approved by the Thomaston Board of Education.

Acetaminophen (Tylenol), Ibuprofen (Advil), Antacid Tablets (Tums) and Cough Drops will no longer be provided by Thomaston Public Schools.  This does not mean that these medications will not be administered; it means that you must provide these medications along with a signed medication authorization form to the School Nurse in order for your child to receive these medications.

If you want your child to have access to these medications during the school day, you must first have your healthcare provider complete and sign the attached medication authorization form.  Then, you must deliver the signed medication authorization form AND deliver a supply of the authorized medication to the School Nurse in person (only a parent/guardian may deliver the authorized medication to the School Nurse).

The medication you supply will be stored in your child’s School Health Office.   The School Nurse will dispense it to your child according to the instructions listed on your child’s medication authorization form.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this policy.

Sincerely,

Francine Coss
